The Non-Profit Times’ Robert Weiner has an excellent article on 10 common mistakes non-profits make when selecting a new donor database for their organization. The key to remember is to take your time with the decision and ensure you are purchasing a product that will suit your needs well into the future. This means defining your needs at the outset. Get everyone in the organization with a stake in the decision around a table and discuss what you like about your current system, what you hate about it, what you wish it did, what you can’t live without.
